As Simon, a border collie who was also going through his own recovery, approached Sammie, a 4-month-old boxer mix, he gently placed his paw on Sammie’s. Even though there was a significant difference in the time when they were rescued, Simon seemed to empathize with Sammie’s suffering after her surgery at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
According to Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Simon and Sammie met at the veterinarian’s office where they instantly formed an extraordinary bond. O’Sullivan added that Simon is highly protective of Sammie.
Sammie has been through some truly terrible experiences. Not only was he spray-painted, but he was also shot in the head and dragged behind a vehicle. Simon, who has taken on the role of Sammie’s caretaker, is always looking out for him. Simon will soon be ready for adoption, but Sammie still has a long way to go before he can fully recover.
O’Sullivan expressed uncertainty about Sammie’s full recovery, as the dog recently underwent surgery and it will take two weeks for the veterinarian to determine if his leg can be saved. Infection is a major concern, and there is a possibility of amputation. However, they are doing everything possible to save Sammie’s legs. Simon, who also suffered abuse, never leaves Sammie’s side. Despite being rescued weeks apart, Simon offers unwavering support to his young friend who endured unimaginable cruelty, including being spray-painted, shot in the head, and dragged by a car.
Meeting at a veterinary clinic, Simon and Sammie’s connection was immediate. Simon’s unwavering devotion to Sammie was noticed by Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, who shared their heartwarming story. Even though Sammie has a long road to recovery ahead of him, he is fortunate to have such caring hands (and paws) watching over him. We are thankful to Jackie for highlighting this touching bond between the two.
