One Woman’s Heartwarming Story of Adopting a Resilient Dog with No Nose and Paw

Margaret Hungerford’s quote, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” perfectly encapsulates the story of Bonnie, a poor pup found wounded beside a railway track in Romania. According to vets, she was either run over by a train or suffered these injuries at the hands of a cruel human being. Sadly, Bonnie is missing her nose and one front paw, and the vets believed she wouldn’t survive. But after being transferred to the UK, a kind-hearted woman named Kate noticed her and decided to give her a forever home, having fallen in love with her after fostering her. Despite Bonnie’s deformity and wounds, Kate saw the beauty in her and chose to give her a new lease on life. More information about Bonnie can be found on Instagram or instabio.cc.

Meet Bonnie, the courageous fur baby who was born in a bustling factory in Romania. She lived among other street dogs until she unfortunately got hit by a coal train. Workers at the factory witnessed the tragic event and heard Bonnie’s cries for help. Luckily, a kind-hearted lady who worked there had taken pictures of Bonnie’s mother, siblings, and herself before the accident. She posted them on social media to find them a new home. Three days after the incident, the lady returned to work and discovered Bonnie injured. Without hesitation, she and her daughter Claudia rescued Bonnie and took her, along with her mother and siblings, to safety. When they got to the vet, Claudia remembered how Bonnie “smelt like death”, and they had to open the windows during their drive to the clinic. Bonnie was missing her nose, half of her leg, and her tail, requiring multiple operations to recover. Despite her injuries, Bonnie continues to show strength and resilience.

Bonnie had a tough time growing up with her siblings who constantly bullied her due to her being different and physically weaker. Fortunately, a kind-hearted lady and her daughter found Bonnie and showered her with love, but they couldn’t keep her. They took her to Beacon Animal Rescue where Rebecca, the owner, introduced Bonnie to me saying, “we just found this poor baby.” As soon as I saw Bonnie, I knew she was the one for me. Against all odds, I decided to adopt her even though I knew that others might not want her due to her appearance and medical conditions. In just a few months, Bonnie found her forever home with me, and we have been in love ever since.

Bravebonbon is the proud owner of Bonnie, a furry friend who ventured to England with her sister Effie. They now live together with Kate, Ross, and other siblings, Pepper, Baxter, and Bella in a big old private school. Interestingly, Bonnie’s mum and siblings were adopted in Germany. But despite being called Angel initially, they decided to change her name to Bonnie because she exudes traits that are more cheeky and bossy. Initially, Kate and her husband raised funds for Bonnie’s prosthetic leg and nose surgery.

The puppy named Bonnie was a unique sight for the school children who came from diverse cultural backgrounds that held different views about dogs. Bonnie served as an excellent educational tool to teach children about acceptance and not judging based on appearances. Unfortunately, despite efforts to fit her with a prosthetic leg, it didn’t work out. The vets advised against it as the wound kept opening up because of it.

After welcoming a new rescue sibling named Skyla, Bonnie found someone who loved her despite her different appearance. Skyla didn’t care about Bonnie’s physical differences and just wanted to play with her. The two dogs were the same age and grew up together. Despite having only three legs, Bonnie played just as quickly as the other dogs and it didn’t affect her at all. Kate eventually decided that Bonnie didn’t need any cosmetic surgery because she was perfect just the way she was.

Kate and her team collected funds for a prosthetic leg for Bonnie, but unfortunately, her stump wound kept reopening, causing unbearable pain. The vets suggested amputation, which was finally carried out, and Bonnie is now agile and free from pain. Kate and her team chose not to change Bonnie’s nose as it was only cosmetic, and they love her just the way she is. They believe that if anyone dislikes her appearance, it shows their shallowness and lack of empathy. Kate never wanted surgery for Bonnie just to fit in with societal norms.

The following are some issues that we encounter with Bonnie: on rare occasions, we have to pat her back vigorously if she experiences difficulty swallowing food – but this can be easily managed by keeping a close watch on her. Additionally, Bonnie doesn’t experience any pain due to her phantom leg syndrome, which means she may try to move her missing leg without discomfort.

Many people often inquire about Bonnie’s eating habits, but it’s no different from other dogs. She uses a deep bowl and scoops up her food with her bottom teeth. However, there was a time when Bonnie ingested magic mushrooms during a walk and almost died. Yet, she battled through it and won the fight once again. Despite being a bit slower at eating and drinking, she has adapted well and feels no pain in her mouth. In addition to this, Bonnie has incredible hearing abilities and is quite intelligent. Whenever she sees something resembling an animal on TV, she watches it attentively and barks at it. She’s such a clever and lively dog that we can’t even watch animal documentaries with her anymore! Overall, Bonnie is an amazing pet that enjoys snuggling and playing like any other dog, despite having a unique way of eating.

When people see Bonnie, they react in different ways. Some can’t help but stare and make rude comments like “Get that thing away from me” or “Your dog is ugly.” It’s disheartening when people even try to kick her or demand that she be kept away from their own dogs, claiming that she’s snarling. The most common joke people make is, “But how does she smell?…bloody awful.”

However, on the flip side, there are those who are genuinely curious about what happened to her nose and show her lots of love. She’s even been recognized from social media and people have stopped to take selfies with her. It’s overwhelming to see how many people from around the world follow her online and send her gifts or write beautiful messages. Despite the negativity, Bonnie has also experienced a lot of kindness and support.

Bonnie, the ruler of the household, is known for her tough exterior which is a testament to her resilience. However, this also makes her prone to being a bit cranky at times. Despite this, she shares a special bond with her owner who took her in and gave her a loving home. Initially, Bonnie’s loud breathing worried her owner that it may be a sign of something serious, but it turned out to be just a quirky trait of hers. Over time, she has become less noisy and is now a beloved member of the family. Bonnie’s story teaches us not to make assumptions based on appearances alone.

Can you lend your hand to disabled dogs? These furry friends may have a harder time finding homes, but the joy of making a difference in their lives is immeasurable. Despite the naysayers who thought my dog should have been put down, I’m thrilled to see her thriving today. There are plenty of other pups out there in need of help too – organizations like @miraclesmission and @florisfriends rescue dogs just like mine. Remember, adopt, don’t shop! If anyone can help me write a book about my dog Bonnie’s journey, I think it could be a great way to spread the message of love and acceptance. Contact me at @katecomfort if you’re interested.
