Alley Cat Rescue, located in Los Angeles, received information earlier this year regarding a mother cat and her eight kittens that were in need of help. Fortunately, the rescue was able to intervene and provide a safe haven for the family of nine, preventing them from ending up in a shelter.
Tangerine, a calico cat who was not yet a year old, required significant assistance. Alley Cat Rescue informed Love Meow that they had received both litters from a mother with two sets of four kittens at varying ages. Tangerine was responsible for feeding all eight hungry mouths, leaving her stretched thin. To alleviate her burden, volunteers began to supplement the older litter’s feedings so that Tangerine could concentrate on her four 10-day-old babies.
According to Alley Cat Rescue, things were going well for a few weeks until the mother cat ran out of milk. The organization had been supporting the family by providing meals, so it wasn’t difficult to switch to bottle-feeding the kittens full-time. Despite the added workload, the mother cat remained attentive to her kittens’ cleanliness. She appeared grateful for the assistance and started spending more time with her caretakers, basking in their affection.
As soon as the caretakers entered the room, Tangerine welcomed them with joy and purred in excitement. Alley Cat Rescue shared that Tangerine was a sweet and affectionate kitten who loved attention. According to them, one of the older kittens in the litter had already started eating their mother’s food by the age of three weeks, while some of the younger ones were still learning to walk. Nonetheless, this particular kitten seemed to have mastered the skill of feeding on its own.
I find it absolutely captivating how intelligent kittens can be. Their ability to adapt to litter box routines, groom themselves, play with toys and cuddle up for warmth amazes me every time.
Cornbread, the smallest kitten in the litter, required additional care to help him grow due to being the runt. Our team had been keeping a close eye on their weights, and unfortunately, Cornbread had stopped gaining weight entirely.
Despite his small stature, Little Cornbread was a tenacious and determined little one who refused to be left behind by his larger siblings. His mother, Momma Tangerine, would encourage him after each feeding and wipe away the milk from his tiny face. He proved to be a formidable opponent during wrestling matches with his bigger siblings, proving that size did not dictate his strength.
This adorable little ginger kitten is growing up nicely and becoming more beautiful every day. He has the sweetest personality and is always looking for his next meal. It’s so cute to watch him eagerly waiting for his bottle. Although his siblings have started eating on their own, Cornbread is still determined to get his daily dose of milk. It’s hard to resist those big blue eyes!
The mama tangerine has given her babies in the hands of caretakers, and she is now looking forward to retiring from her role as a mother. Her desire has always been to have a place to call her own where she can be the center of attention. Finally, her dream has come true this week as she gets adopted and settles into her new home.
The kitten is overjoyed to be a young cat once again, receiving ample affection, entertainment, and cuddles from her loving owners. She now has a new family, including a new furry companion to shower her with attention. Alley Cat Rescue informed Love Meow that she is ecstatic to finally have found her forever home where she can live out the rest of her life contentedly.
